Hair cuts for women on the go range from coloured hairstyles, Italian haircut for women, haircuts for older women and new hairstyles for women set by today’s fashion trends. The women living life in her forties truly becomes a trend setter when it comes to the fashionable hair style that she desires.
The 40’s women is often very busy either working her career, running a business or running a very busy household with demanding teenagers and time schedules.
Through the ages of twenty to forty the woman is settling into and progressing through life with her career and the growth of her family.
It is for this reason that the 40’s woman chooses a hairstyle that will fit in with her demanding schedule that suits her lifestyle. Her hairstyle needs to be suitable for work and socialising with her peers and friends.
The 40’s woman will often opt for a shorter style of hair as opposed to the high maintenance of longer hair and the demands on the woman’s time to maintain her long hair style. At times when a woman enters her 40’s she will find that her hair is thinning and starting to take on grey roots where they once did not appear.
Short cut hairstyles for the women in her 40’s allows her to keep up with a colour maintenance program where the roots of her hair are dyed to remove the grey colouring. Short style haircuts is less demanding to maintain than longer or middle length hair and this provides the woman valuable time better spent elsewhere.
The main reason why a woman in her 40’s prefers a shorter style haircut comes down to time management, easier to maintain and more cost effective then longer hairstyles.
When considering your hairstyle take into account the shape of your face and the colour of your skin. Not only that but it is an unfortunate stage of life where you may have some middle age spread that might be accentuated by one style of haircut. Speaking with your friends and asking them their opinion will help you to narrow down the style of haircut you will choose.
Always remember to cut out some photos of the hairstyle you choose of other women over 40 hair styles as well as the colour you would like your hair so you can discuss it with your hairstylist.

1 Vacation Packing Tips // Jun 28, 2008 at
Im in my 40’s and just grown my hair past my collar line for the first time in 20 years. It was a real pain but I was on a 6 month camping trip so could do it without it having to look good for work! Now I have to relearn how to manage it! Its more flattering for me to have the longer hair: though really long hair on an older woman is really aging I think

I stumbled onto your blog from Google search engine. You have some very good information here and provided me with a few tips that I had not previously considered.
I absolutely love the short hair style picture and that is my choice. I’m booking my appointment right now.

I was stunned to hear that Madonna hit the big ‘5-oh’ recently, and amazed as usual how good she looked with long hair. So maybe this is a case where ‘the exception proves the rule’ ie maybe a woman has to have the kind of time to attend to her appearance that Madonna does, in order to really pull off long hair into her 50’s!
Keep up the good work!

Nice post, you have right. Women over 40 tend to have short hair styles for many reasons, and you have written almost all.
Women over 40 that have long hair, also have much free time for styling and making, as it is more needed then at young stage.

I agree with Gina because having longer hair does take some time to manage. I went short styled and it made my life that little bit easier.

I am almost 47 and still have long hair. I wash and style it only twice a week and can do many things with it. It is healthy and I’m just starting to get the odd grey hairs. I’ve asked my friends about the length but they all love it on me. If and when I have it shorter it will definately be a Bob.

I have never really been a fan of short hair on women but some of those styles do not look all that bad in all honesty.

I also observed that almost all women on age 40’s have shorter hair. Personally, i think it really look nice and i suggest that they need to look for products to maintain it.

My MIL is in her 50’s and from the back looks about 18 with her long hair, it just doesn’t suit her anymore. I’ve told her she’d probably love a more managable style that is better suited for her age but she has yet to take my advice.

I think it depends on the woman. I think long hair on older women can still look great, and I know my husband likes me with longer hair no matter what.

I think it all depends upon the head of hair you have. If it’s healthy and in good condition why not wear it long. Plenty of my friends still have the thick head of hair well past menopause and they look good in long hair.

I’m 47, with long auburn hair almost to my waist. Its as thick as it ever was, no grey hairs and everyone says it looks good BUT I do tend to wear it up in a bun, french roll or ponytail in summer…..I can’t imagine cutting it. I will be one of those old ladies with 50 cats and hair plaited down to her ankles I guess.
