Bad Hair To Good Hair – Limp and Lifeless Hair – Undone Up-Do

Problem: Limp Lifeless Hair

Cause:

Either products stripping hair of it’s natural oils or product overload and the need for a good hair wash.

Prevention:

Nip the problem in the bud by washing hair thoroughly – the average shampoo blob takes five minutes to rinse out. If hair still looks limp, try a ‘double dry’. Apply volumising mousse to wet roots (not the ends, it will weigh hair down), hang your head upside down and blow dry. When hair is dry, apply more mousse to the roots and blow dry again. Use a vented brush to aerate your hair and boost volume, and sweep upwards at the roots for extra lift.

Quick Fix:

Tease some life back into your hair by gently backcombing your roots or hanging your head upside down and tousling the roots with your fingers. Finish with a mist of hairspray. Don’t put it up – limp hair sags quickly.

Tip

Parting your hair differently – against its natural growth direction – gives instant lift.

Problem: Undone Up-Do

Cause:

Complicated styling can make even the most carefully coiffed hair collapse.

Prevention:

Freshly washed hair has less grip than slightly dirty hair, so always leave it a day before attempting something special. Simple up-dos last longer – the fussier the style, the more likely it is to flop – so opt for a neat side ponytail instead. Gather hair into a band, then fold the end of the ponytail under and tuck it in. Secure it, then cover with an elegant barrette. To soften the look, pull some sections loose at the front and curl them with tongs.

Quick Fix:

If you don’t have the tools at hand to rescue your style, then re-do your hair the way you usually wear it, but this time give it a bit of a twist. Wind your hair around your fingers at the roots to give it some lift, tuck it behind your ears if you usually wear it forward, gently backcomb it to create more volume, or jazz it up using a couple of sparkly hair slides or a soft fabric flower.

Tip

Resist the temptation to keep touching your hair once you’ve finished your up-do – constant preening can make your style sag quickly.
